Chinese entrepreneurs doing business withAfrica have committed to a Declaration of Social Responsibility to guide their conduct on the continent. The code of conduct was agreed to at a meeting here of entrepreneurs from China and more than 50 African countries on the sidelines of the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), the main framework for China-Africa relations. The declaration seemed designed to address reports of various complaints about Chinese companies in Africa, ranging from the abuse of workers, through dumping poor quality goods on the continent, to focusing too much on extracting raw materials and not adding value to them before export.
